Chapter Eight

Barrett

Barrett sat back in his own seat and smiled. He loved getting Jake off unexpectedly like that. It made him feel bold and powerful, and he looked forward to pleasuring Jake for the rest of their lives.

Jake's hand landed on his thigh and Barrett laced their fingers together. They were flying back to Los Angeles with their relationship no longer a secret from anyone who knew them, and they were engaged to be married. It didn't get any sweeter than that, and his head began to swirl with the countless possibilities they now had in front of them. The first step was to get married, and since they both wanted a brief engagement, their wedding day could be just around the corner.

Barrett lifted Jake's hand to kiss his knuckles. “Since we want to expedite our engagement in favor of being married, I think we should file for our marriage license first thing on Monday morning,” Barrett suggested. “That way, once we have a date, we'll be ready with the legal paperwork beforehand.”

“How long is the waiting period?” Jake questioned.

“I checked the city website and Los Angeles doesn't have one,” Barrett said and then added, “and the license is valid for a full ninety days after the file date.”

“That's plenty of time for us to get a wedding planned,” Jake said.

The wheels were spinning faster and faster in Barrett's brain. Without a waiting period for the marriage license, Barrett was getting ideas of surprising Jake with a wedding at his birthday party. It would only take a couple of calls to get a justice of the peace and a photographer to the birthday party’s venue. Their friends and a few co-workers would already be in attendance, and the only people who would need to be added to the guest list were their parents.

This could work.

He could even use the excuse of meeting at Barnaby's Cabaret Bar to scout out the club as a possible wedding venue. Jake would arrive and walk into a room of their loved ones; they'd all yell “surprise” for his fortieth birthday, and then as their guests settled back down, Barrett would cue the justice of the peace to join them, and they'd be married. Sure, there were some details that needed to be ironed out, but it would be simple and sweet, and Barrett knew Jake would love the romance behind it all. Once the wedding ceremony was completed, they could celebrate Jake's birthday.

I need to order a cake, flowers, and tuxes. Barrett began a mental checklist of things to do in his head. And I'll have to plan a honeymoon that will be memorable as fuck. Sure, add some more pressure to yourself!

Truth was, Barrett knew any trip with the two of them would be fantastic, and he needed to remind himself of that. Jake wouldn't be expecting a trip of a lifetime. He'd be happy with a simple excursion out on their boat with nothing more than their fishing poles and a gallon of lube.
